Telangana To Not Test COVID-19 Secondary Contacts

The Telangana government which extended the home quarantine period to 28 days from 14 days has also directed the health department officials to not conduct tests for the asymptomatic secondary contacts of COVID-19 patients

The same was confirmed by the Chief Secretary of state Somesh Kumar who released a press release in this regard. 'They (asymptomatic secondary contacts) shall not be tested,' CS said.

'However, they shall be identified, stamped and placed in strict home quarantine for a period of 28 days and monitored daily by the local area multi-disciplinary surveillance teams,' he added.

The press release went on to say that the primary contacts of the COVID-19 positive cases will only be shifted to the authorized quarantine centers and their samples will be sent for testing.

The total count of the positive cases of COVID-19 stood at 725 in Telangana with 195 out of 943 total cases being discharged so far.24 have succumbed to the fatal virus to date.
