Prominent Telugu writer Ravuri Bharadwaja (86), who had been suffering from kidney-related problems for a while, passed away at a private hospital here on Friday. Bharadwaja had 37 collections of short stories, 17 novels, six short novels for children and 8 plays to his credit, Ravuri earned doctorates from Andhra University, Nagarjuna University and the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.
Starting his writing career at the age of 17, Bharadwaja had the distinction of receiving the State Sahitya Academy Award for Literature twice, in 1968 and 1983, and the central Sahitya Academy Award in 1983.Pakudu Rallu and Jeevana Samaram are considered two of his finest works. Bharadwaja was awarded the 48th Jnanpith award in 2012 for his work Paakudu Raallu, a graphic account of life behind the scenes in the film industry. Jeevana Samaram was another of his popular works.
Ravuri is the third Telugu person to receive the famous Jnanpith after Viswanadha Satyanarayana and Dr C Narayan Reddy. He is survived by four sons and a daughter
