Corona Fears: These Are The Hardest Hit People

Update: 2020-03-19 04:34 GMT
Corona scare seems to be hitting businesses hard. The hardest hit is the cab business. With the footfalls of travellers coming down drastically, the cab drivers are unable to do any business. Earlier, they used to have 20-25 trips a day. But, today, it has come down to just 10 trips per day.

The biggest effect is on their incomes. Their incomes have gone down by more than 60 per cent. As a result, they are unable to pay their EMI installments for their vehicle. Most cab drivers have got cars on loan with the cab aggregators like Ola and Uber lending them money. The drivers have to pay monthly installments to these aggregators. With the business down in the dumps, they are not in a position to pay the installment and want the aggregators to give them some concession on payment for a month or two. "What we are getting now is barely enough to take care of our daily needs and we are not in a position to pay the installment," said a driver.

Another major problem for them is that the passengers have become more demanding about cleanliness and sanitation within the car. Even if the driver sneezes or caughs, they are asking them to disinfect the whole car. Spending on sanitation in times of financial crisis such as this would be a huge burden on us, said a driver.
