United States has withdrawn from the United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) accusing the organization of taking an Anti-Israel stand. This decision will come into effect from December 31st, 2018.
Instead of being a member of the Paris-based agency, US will appoint an Observer in order to present its views and expertise on some key issues. The developed nation wishes to continue cooperation in education & science, and protection of world heritage & press freedom.
US opposed the move of UNESCO recognizing the Palestinians as a State. Trump Administration stresses the need of fundamental reforms in the organization. This could be seen as another step indicating Trump's 'America First' foreign policy.
