TSRTC suffering heavy losses due to Covid lockdown

Update: 2021-05-17 15:15 GMT
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation  (TSRTC) is facing toughest of the times. The state-owned transport corporation's buses are plying in many places and the district services have almost come to a halt. Since the lockdown relaxation is just for 3 hours, the buses coming from the district will have to waste the full day waiting in the bus depots. So , the RTC has cancelled several services.

Even in the twin cities, where some city services are playing, the passengers clearly seem to avoid the RTC buses in view of the fear of Covid pandemic. The RTC and Metro services are believed to be the biggest causes of infection of Covid virus. RTC officials said that on several days, the total daily collections are less than Rs 10 lakh.

RTC officials say that the Corona is severely impacting the cargo and parcel services too. The RTC had stopped the services temporarily in view of the lockdown. The income from the cargo services too has fallen to the lowest level. Another major problem is with regards to the payment of rentals for the private buses. For the past five months, the RTC is unable to pay the rent for the private bus owners. Till May, the total rental arrears are to a tune of Rs 100 crore. There are around 3000 private buses.
