Tummala holds key supporters' meet, keeps TRS on tenterhooks

Update: 2022-11-11 06:35 GMT
What is former minister and political veteran Tummala Nageswara Rao up to? Will he sail with the ruling TRS or will he leave the party? If he leaves the party, will he prefer the BJP or the Congress Party? These are the questions that are being hotly debated in the politically volatile Khammam district.

On Thursday, Tummala organised a meeting of the well-wishers in Vajedu area. Over 1500 diehard supporters of the former minister were present. Tummala arrived at the meeting ahead of a convoy of over 500 cards. The political scene heated up in the district over this meeting and analysts felt that Tummala would make some key announcements about his political future.

However, Tummala refrained from making political comments. Though he held key discussions with some leaders in private, the details of this meeting have not come out. Sources however, say that Tummala is none too happy with the way the ruling TRS was ignoring him. They also claimed that the BJP has already made some contact with him.

Tummala joined the TRS after his defeat in the 2014 assembly elections. Later, the TRS made him the MLC. However, he failed to win in the 2019 election and remained sidelined ever since. This too has caused a heartburn to Tummala Nageswara Rao. He and Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy have been sulking over the TRS ignoring them. Hence, the Atmeeya Sammelanam of Thursday assumes significance.
