On the lines of Patel Reservation row in Gujarat, Upper Castes (Brahmins, Vyshayas, Reddy's, Kammas, Kshatriya & Velamas) in Andhra Pradesh have made up their minds to fight collectively for reservations in Educational Institutions & Employment. They demand 20 percent reservation for the poor in Upper Castes. Representatives of Upper Castes will meet in Srisailam on May 19th to prepare the action plan.
After TDP Government took the Kapu's demand for BC Status, Upper Castes began believing that they would be benefitted in some way or the other if a movement was launched. They now demand Government to set up a Corporation for each community & sufficient allocations in budget. They also allege none of CMs belonging to Upper Castes have done justice to their community fearing backlash from people of other Castes. Plans were made to organize Maha Gharjana in a Coastal district next month.
Caste Equations in AP: BC (45%), Kapus (10%), SC (10%), ST (5%), Minorities (9%), Reddy (6%), Kamma (5%), Vysya (3%), Kshatriya (3%), Velama (2%).
Caste Equations in Telangana: BC (45%), SC (15%), ST (5%), Velama (5%), Minorities (12%), Reddy (5%), Balija (4%), Kamma (3%), Vysya (2%), Kshatriya (2%), Brahmins (2%).
While Upper Castes comprise of 21% in AP, They contribute 19% of population in Telangana. So, None of the political parties would dare to ignore their demands.
