In view of the violent protests that erupted in Uttar Pradesh last week, the authorities in various cities of the state have suspended internet services ahead of Friday prayers as a precautionary step. A home department spokesperson said the death toll in the violence that occurred last week is 19. As many as 288 policemen were injured. 1,113 people have been arrested across Uttar Pradesh. 327 FIRs have been registered. District administrations have issued notices asking for payments for losses caused by arson and stone pelting.
The authorities have suspended internet services in Bulandshar, Mathura, Ghaziabad, Agra and several other cities in the state. In Buldnshahr, internet services have been snapped till December 28 morning.
