What is stopping you from arresting Punch Prabhakar asks HC

Update: 2021-10-29 06:24 GMT
It is known that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had severely objected to the posts and comments made against the judges and judiciary and handed over the case to the central agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and to take action against those who were behind such posts. However, the Court was not happy with the CBI concerning the case.

The Division bench of the High Court was not happy with the CBI and asked why all the accused are not arrested even after one year of filing the case. Why the posts were not removed from social media. Is CBI standing beside the accused in the case, the bench asked.

Raising a doubt on why the required actions were not taken to remove the videos, the Andhra Pradesh High Court asked the CBI why the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) links were not given to the platforms.

The High Court asked the CBI why Punch Prabhakar who is constantly making posts against the judiciary was not arrested? Why no measures were taken to arrest Punch Prabhakar from abroad? The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) should arrest him, the court said.

Advocates representing WhatsApp, Facebook, Google, and YouTube told the court that they cannot restrict anyone from making posts. However, they said they will remove the posts if the URLs of the posts were given to them.

As a reply to the High Court's question on the measures taken in arresting the accused, the CBI told the court that 11 members were arrested so far and they are in talks with the Union Government in this case. Notices were served to Punch Prabhakar and we are in touch with Interpol, CBI advocate said.

The Division bench headed by Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra which also comprises Justice Kanneganti Lalitha issued detectives to CBI SP to explain the action the agency had taken so far on October 29.

The practice of derogatory comments against the judges and courts was brought to the notice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court last year by a few petitioners. Seeing this as a serious issue, the case was handed over to the CBI.
