Prime Minister Narendra Modi is putting the lockdown to the best use. He is using it to connect with the RSS and BJP old-timers and is enquiring about their health. He is telling them to take care of their health during the times of Corona. This is turning out to be a massive PR exercise and at the same time the hardcore organisational men, who have put in decades of work for the organisation, are feeling elated at getting a call from the Prime Minister.
After calling up senior Telugu BJP workers like Mandadi Satyanarayana Reddy and Ch Jangareddy, Modi on Friday called up 85-year-old RSS activist Somasekhara Bhatt in Karnataka. Bhatt, who is living in Udupi these days, is the first Jana Sangh activist in Udupi region. He was jailed during the emergency and had also worked as the ward member in Udupi. A diehard RSS activist, Bhatt worked in various capacities and had never even tried to join any other party. During their conversation, Modi spoke about Karnataka's contribution in fighting the emergency black rule imposed on the country by Indira Gandhi.
As part of the confidence bulding measures during the times of Corona, the PM has been speaking to senior RSS and BJP workers. In addition, he addressed a meeting of sarpanches through a nation-wide televised video conference. Bhatt, of course, is on Cloud Nine. He said it was a great experience getting a call from Modi.
