Where Is The Promised Incentive For Unanimous Sarpanches?

Update: 2021-01-11 03:47 GMT
The Telangana government had promised to give an incentive of Rs 10 lakh to all those villages which elected their sarpanches unanimously. In order to encourage unity among the villagers, the government had announced this incentive. The incentive was to be used for the development of the village.

But, even after two years of such unopposed elections, the promised funds are not being released. Despite several pleas by the panchayats, the amounts have not been given to the winning sarpanches. Several sarpanches had already spent the amounts from their pockets in the hope that the government would anyway release the amounts. They are now being forced to pay the interest amounts of the loans.  What is worse, the state government has not even released the necessary guidelines for issuing the incentives. As a result,  the officials are using the alibi that they are unable to release the amount due to the absence of the guidelines.

Take for instance Mahabubabad district. There are 461 gram panchayats of which as many as 103 panchats elected their surpanches without a contest in the hope that they would get incentive. Even TRS sarpanches are unhappy with this. However, they are expressing their dissent in muted way as they do not want to displease their bosses.
