Almost all political surveys at the national level are predicting that the ruling BJP might just fall short of the required numbers in Lok Sabha elections. There are strong indications that the BJP seats will go done when compared to the last year. Though the BJP leaders are exuding confidence outwardly, they too are worried about the situation and the mood. The party knows that it cannot repeat the magic of 2014 and that it might not sweep the states it had swept during the last time.
In UP, the BJP got around 90 per cent of the seats. But this time around, the SP and the BSP have formed an alliance and due to this, the BJP may not win more than 40 seats in UP. In 2014, the BJP swept Rajasthan, MP and Bihar. The Congress was reduced to obscurity in these states. But, this time around, things may not be as easy for the BJP in these states.
Only in Bihar, the party is hoping for a better show as it is working in association with hugely popular and charismatic leader Nithish Kumar. So, it would be a huge loss for the BJP in the Hindi belt, which is its strongest citadel. Given this, the party may not win more than 220 seats this time in the Lok Sabha, say poll watchers.
