The BJP it appears is actively considering fielding its top most and most charismatic leader Narendra Modi from South India. This is being seen as an attempt to bolster the BJP prospects in South India, which is the weakest link of the party. If BJP insiders are to be believed, the party strategist Amit Shah is planning to field Narendra Modi from Mahabubnagar Lok Sabha constituency.
Highly placed sources say that the party has already got the first round of the survey done in Mahabubnagar constituency and the results are said to be encouraging. A second level survey would be done soon to gauge the mood of the voters in the constituency. Amit Shah is said to be taking personal interest in the survey.
Mahabubnagar constituency has thrown up mixed results in the past. During the Telangana agitation, the Congress was defeated. In the 1990s, BJP's AP Jitender Reddy won from Mahabubnagar. During the heydays of the Congress, Jaipal Reddy won twice on anti-Congress plank. Now, the TRS represents the constituency. The BJP reportedly zeroed in on this constituency because of the anti-Congressism here.
The party also feels that two senior leaders AP Jitender Reddy and vice-president DK Aruna, besides former MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy and senior leader Nagurao Namaji will work for Modi's victory. Amit Shah reportedly feels that the voters and party workers would be galvanized by Modis presence in Mahabubnagar.
