Has TRS' fight with the Centre on the issue of paddy procurement died a premature death? Yes, say those keeping track of the TRS affairs. The TRS team led by MP Ranjit Reddy and minister Niranjan Reddy has come back empty handed and has achieved nothing. Now other developments too indicate that the paddy procurement issue is all but dead in Telangana.
That the Central government was unflinching and did not yield an inch to the state government is now clear as daylight. That the State Government was defensive throughout is also quite clear. But soon after returning empty-handed, the TRS wanted to take up some agitational programmes in Hyderabad at least for optics sake. But, even that seems to be unraveling.
Soon after returning, the delegation planned to meet KCR and explain him the developments. However, it now turns out that minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Ranjit Reddy, who were part of the delegation, tested Covid positive. They have now gone into quarantine and all those who came into contact with him too went into isolation. Now there is no immediate possibility of a meeting with KCR.
Meanwhile, the BJP, which wanted to stage a dharna on the issue, has been denied permission to hold a protest at the Indira Park citing Covid situation. This also means that the TRS too cannot take up any agitational programme now. Thus, the whole issue of paddy procurement has died an unsung death.
