The auction for liquor shops is always a costly affair in India. Given the love towards liquor, bidders don't mind spending crores of money in bidding. However, an auction called for a liquor shop gained the attention of the nation.
Going into detail, the Rajasthan government called for an e-auction for a wine shop in Nohar of Hanumangarh district. The base of the wine shop was 72.70 lakh, but the wine shop got a bid of whopping Rs 510 crores, the highest amount. Last year, the same shop was sold for â¹65 lakh in the lottery system.
The state government came up with the e-auction system for the wine shops earlier last week. The government's move to change the system resulted in the excise department witnessing high income.
According to CR Dewasi, additional commissioner, excise policy, the e-auction was launched three days back. Kiran Kanwar is the person who got the wine shop for Rs â¹510 crores in the bidding.
The excise department has sent the demand notice to Kiran Kanwar to deposit two percent of the bid amount within three days. As per the rules, if he fails to pay the amount before the deadline, the allotment would be canceled.
Rajasthan reported a revenue of Rs 10,500 crores in the last financial year despite the pandemic outbreak. With the e-auction system, the government is expecting to witness a revenue of around Rs 13,000 crore.
The state also saw a rise in income in bidding after the new system was introduced. On average, the state reported not less than 30 percent of higher bids than the base price.
CR Dewasi said, the state government has decided to conduct the e-auction in the state in a phased manner and the process will be continued till the 10th of this month. So far, e-auction was held for 3,572 wine shops out of the 7,665 wine shops.
