Massive Protest Against SC's Sabarimala Verdict

The Supreme Court had recently delivered a historic verdict permitting women of all age groups to enter Sabarimala Temple. A lot of Ayyappa Devotees including women have been opposing this ruling.

Massive protest has been staged at NSS Medical Mission Junction in Pandalam which is the birth place of Ayyappa located near Sabarimala. 4,000 Ayyappa Devotees assembled at the Junction at 9.30 am. Within two hours, The count of protestors increased to 40,000. Over 50,000 people took part in the protest by 1 PM. This isn't a politically motivated project but devotees participated in it voluntarily. A Woman had attempted suicide in Thiruvananthapuram in protest against the verdict of the Apex Court.

Most importantly, Majority of the Protesters are Women and Youth. Women claimed they could wait until completion of 50 years for the darshan of Ayyappa. They demanded the Kerala Government to challenge the verdict of the Supreme Court.

Similar Protests were staged in other parts of Kerala against the SC Verdict allowing women in menstrual age (10-50 years) into the temple.

Pandalam Royal Family is leading the protests against the Supreme Court verdict saying traditions that came into existence even before the constitution was framed should be continued. What does the Left-led Kerala Government do now?
