Update: 2020-03-03 09:46 GMT
The Indian Parliament has witnessed a heated debate in the house with a women MP alleging that she was "physically assaulted" by a fellow MP of the BJP party in Lok Sabha.

Going into detail Congress Kerala MP Ramya Haridas alleged that she was physically assaulted and she burst into tears in the Lok Sabha while talking about the incident.

She was surprised after Speaker of the house Om Birla did not allow to have a discussion on the ongoing violent Delhi riots that left 46 people dead till now and even the administrative control of the government and the police also witnessed a total breakdown.

"I was shocked when suddenly someone hit me on my shoulder from back. We don’t expect to be beaten up inside Parliament. It is unfortunate that the House which so far was a safe space has been reduced to this," Ms. Haridas said.

After the incident, she met speaker Om Birla and said, "If the Speaker wants to establish the truth, he can look into the CCTV and other Lok Sabha TV camera footages”.

"To raise slogans or march into the well of the House is a regular parliamentary strategy used by the Opposition parties to express their protest. We were not doing anything unusual," she told the media.
