1983 World Cup Teammate Replaced Ganguly As BCCI Chief!

Update: 2022-10-18 08:56 GMT
Who will be the next chief of the cricket governing body cricket in India Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) is the question many cricket fans have. As former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly's tenure was over, the question was raised. To put an end to that long speculation, BCCI called for the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

At the AGM, former Indian captain Roger Binny was elected as the next BCCI chief. For the past few days, Sourav Ganguly has been hinting that he is not going to get a second chance as the BCCI supremo.

Making this true Ganguly was not retained and Roger Binny is elected for the plum post. He is the 36th person to serve as the chief of the BCCI. But what makes him unique is that he is the first person from the 1983 World Cup-winning team to lead the body.

BCCI chief is not a small post as the person sitting in the post can make wonders as the head of the richest cricket board in the world. A few times, former Indian players became the BCCI chief. But most of the time people who are not familiar with cricket were made the chief of BCCI.

It's been around a decade since the Indian team lifted any world cup or ICC trophy. Though BCCI cannot make any player give a match-winning performance, there is a strong criticism that the cricket governing body pokes into the dressing room of the team and gets involved in issues that are not meant for it.

The infamous saga of Virat Kohli's captaincy is often dubbed as an example of how things would turn disaster if the body takes too much authority. Every time the Indian team gives a losing performance, BCCI faces the heat.

With Roger Binny replacing Sourav Ganguly as the chief of the BCCI, we have to wait and see what he can do in improving the team's performance and attitude.

Roger Binny is one of the veteran players from India. He represented India in ODIs and Tests and made some decent records. In his Test career which lasted for eight years, he played 27 wickets and took 47 wickets.

Coming to the 50-over format, his career lasted for seven years. But his best performance came in the 1983 world cup tournament when India lift the mighty trophy for the first time. He took 18 wickets.
