It is common for the opposition party leaders to show interest in the ruling party and shift their loyalties to the party. But we are seeing a contrasting trend in Andhra Pradesh. A few ruling party members became rebels and shocked the party. There are allegations that they cross-voted in the recent MLA polls.
Udayagiri MLA Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy is among the rebel leaders who were suspended from the party. Since then he has been making sensational comments. Earlier he said that there are many leaders in the party who want to shift their loyalties to other parties from YCP.
Now the MLA stunned everyone by saying that he will join the party. He also said that he likes to contest from Telugu Desam Party if given a chance. The MLA met Nara Lokesh, who is busy with his padayatra. He held a meeting with Nara Lokesh on the occasion.
The YCP rebel MLA listed out his issues and announced joining the TDP. Speaking to the media, Mekapati said that he met Jagan a few times on his MLA ticket, but no positive response came. I was assured an MLC. With no option left, I am coming out of the party and I will be joining the TDP. If I was given a ticket, I will contest the polls, or else I will work for the party, he said.
"I'm not giving you a ticket. We're looking at a different person. If you want, we will give you an MLC.' It seemed like it wouldn't have been worth it," the MLA added. He even said that two other MLAs would also take the Telugu Desam Party route.
Udayagiri MLA Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy is one of the key leaders in the Nellore district. His political journey started in the combined Andhra Pradesh. He is known as the close aide of the late YSR. For the same reason, he joined YCP when Jagan floated the party and won the by-poll. Despite all this, things turned upside down between him and the party and he decided to leave the party. Party leadership looking at his replacement is said to be the main reason behind this.
