YCP Wins Badvel By-poll With Twice The Majority!

Update: 2021-11-02 08:28 GMT
YSRCP had retained the Badvel by-poll with a majority of more than 90,000 and party candidate Dasari Sudha had emerged victorious in the election by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and Congress party candidates. She even surpassed the majority set by her husband Venkatasubbaiah. Sudha continued the lead she got in the first round.

As a stunning victory, Sudha won the election with a majority of 90,228 votes. BJP candidate P. Suresh stood at second place with over 20,000 votes while the Congress party stood at the third position in the by-poll.

As many as 15 candidates have tried their luck in the Badvel by-elections that saw YSRCP candidate Sudha, widow of Venkata Subbaiah, former MLA, whose sudden demise paved the way for the by-election winning the election with a stunning victory. She had won the election with twice the majority of her husband in the 2019 elections.

In the 2019 elections, Venkata Subbaiah won the constituency with 44,734 votes. Now his wife Sudha had emerged victorious with a huge majority of 90,550, which is more than twice the majority. Sudha had attracted as many as 1,11,710 votes, followed by Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) candidate Suresh with 21,621 votes.

Taking the track record of YSRCP winning all the elections, everyone thought the ruling party would win the elections and the predictions came true in the elections. But what had surprised everyone was the votes attracted by the BJP candidate. In the Tirupati by-election, BJP did not get a good number of votes. But the Badvel by-poll was something big for the BJP.

Though it's a big thing for the saffron party, we cannot credit the party solely for this. Developments like Janasena and Telugu Desam Party(TDP) staying out of the election fray had helped BJP to increase the vote share.

The by-elections in Badvel became inevitable after Badvel MLA Gunthoti Venkata Subbaiah, a famous medical practitioner breathed his last while taking treatment for his illness at a private hospital. He passed away in Kadapa at a private hospital. 2019 was his first election. In his maiden election, he tasted victory and made it to the Assembly.
