YSR statue raises political heat in Narasaraopet

Update: 2022-09-01 06:31 GMT
A proposed YSR statue has become the source of great tension for Narasaraopet town. The proposed statue is being opposed tooth and nail by the opposition TDP, but the YSRCP leaders are hell-bent on installing the statue. The TDP approached the courts and brought an order from the court. The YSRCP leaders are going ahead full steam to install the statue despite the court orders.

The whole problem started when the YSRCP leaders performed the Bhoomi pooja for installing the statue of the late YSR at the Palnadu Centre. However, the TDP claimed that there was no permission to install the statue and approached the court. The court has issued orders stopping the setting up of the statue.  But, the YSRCP leaders are still going ahead with the work.

The police and the district administration find themselves in a piquant position. They cannot stop the ruling party leaders. But at the same time, they cannot overlook the court orders as it would invite the provisions of contempt of the court. Meanwhile, TDP incharge for the Narasaraopet constituency Dr Chadalavada Aravind Babu is planning to move contempt of court proceedings against the YSRCP in the court. With this, the political heat is rising in Narasaraopet.

The TDP has also staged a dharna against sitting YSRCP MLA Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy.  However, the MLA says that the TDP was trying to politicise a trifling issue. He said the YSRCP had never objected to the installation of NTR's statue in the town. However, the TDP was resorting to foul politics by making the YSR statue a matter of controversy, he said.
