In what could be a game-changing decision the Australian Government brought the right to disconnect rule which says that the employees need not answer the calls if the boss calls after working hours. The employers cannot take action on the employees too.
It is common for employers to call employees after office hours if there is any emergency. But in most cases, they won't get paid extra for working extra hours. In some cases, the employers take action for not being available for them. That’s where the debate about why employees should work starts.
The Australian government brought the law. The employees and employee associations are welcoming the move saying that they can balance work and personal life with this as they get some free time.
A recent study found that Australians are working 281 hours additionally annually without any pay. The work culture is different in the West and they are paid for hours in most cases. If we calculate 281 hours then the time would be very high and this is very concerning.
Bringing an answer the government brought the rule. Australia is not the first country to bring such a rule. France became the first country to bring such a law and other countries joined it. Italy, Belgium, and other countries tried the law and saw fruitful outcomes.
