The moment that believers have been waiting for is just a few hours away from now. The wait is finally over after a long wait of 496 years. The long-standing dispute was put to rest and the path was cleared for the temple construction in the temple city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

The Ram Mandir will be inaugurated today with a traditional consecration ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the ceremony and he is on a special fast already for the big occasion. There is temple fever across the country and all roads are leading to the city.

As Ayodhya is getting all the attention let us look at the crucial events in the Ayodhya issue. Six events can be dubbed as crucial events which changed the course of history. Let us have a look at them.

Babri Masjid Construction: Ayodhya has a special importance among Hindus as the epic Ramayana says that it is the birthplace of Lord Rama and it was the same place from where he ruled the kingdom. In 1527, the Babri Masjid was constructed following the orders of Mughal Emperor Babur. Many say that the masjid was constructed by demolishing the existing temple. Since then the disputes between both sides have been going on.

1859 British Orders: This can be seen as the second big incident. When British rule was going on in India, the officers set up a fence separating outer space and inner space. While the inner space in the Masjid was allocated to Muslims, the outer space was given to the Hindus.

Idols Spotted Inside Masjid: Adding fuel to the claims that the temple was demolished for the Masjid construction. Idols of Lord Rama were found. A few other idols were also found. However, a few argue that the idols might have been placed in the temple on purpose.

Rath Yatra: Dubbed as one of the significant moments in the history of India, the yatra was held in 1990 covering a few hundreds kilometers. Many say that the yatra had set a good tempo for the Mandir demand. Senior BJP leader LK Advani led the yatra which increased the intensity in a few states. Cases were also filed.

Masjid Demolition: 1992 was the year that changed the course of the issue at once. The standing masjid was brought down by the Karsevaks. The pictures of people standing on top of construction appeared in every newspaper back then.

2019: The Final Step:

The long-standing dispute was put to rest when the Supreme Court ruled out in favour of Hindus. The bench of the Supreme Court said that the disputed land belongs to Hindus and ordered for the temple construction. Another land was allocated for the Masjid construction.
