Becoming a prime minister of the country requires years of political experience and facing extreme challenges at a personal and professional capacity. There are people who spend years and decades of their lives for this enrichment.
But in the case of the new incoming prime minister of Nepal, Balan Shah, the story is very different.
This 35 year old individual had done his graduation in the South Indian city of Bengaluru, India. Apparently, Balen Shah did his MTech in Structural Engineering at Nitte Meenakshi Institute, Bengaluru (2016-18).
He went to his home country of Nepal, where he did rap songs and musical albums for a few years. These songs gained attraction on social media and YouTube, which ultimately generated a public image for him.
This was followed by his political debut as the mayor of Kathmandu(2022-26) and the subsequent jump into mainstream politics. He quickly became one of the main runners for the Prime Minister position on behalf of the 4-year old RSP party in Nepal.
Following a landslide victory in the March 5, 2026, general elections, Balen Shah’s Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) secured a massive majority, capturing 124 of 165 directly elected seats. He is now bound to become the new prime minister of Nepal.
From studying in Bengaluru, less than a decade ago to doing Youtube songs and then becoming the prime minister of the country, Balen Shah has had a quick turnaround. This is largely due to the social media campaigns that he successfully ran which attracted the Gen Z folk. The crucial challenge for him is going to be uproot the corrupt Nepal administration now.
