Cricket administrative body Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) is the richest cricket body in the world and there is no debate on this. The position the BCCI enjoys is at a level that the Pakistan Cricket Board often alleges that the BCCI controls the International Cricket Council.

BCCI’s brainchild Indian Premier League(IPL) is a game-changer when it comes to income. Since the first season, IPL has been bringing good income. But the 2023 edition helped the BCCI hit the jackpot with a massive surplus amount.

As per the information, the Rs 5210 crore surplus amount was recorded. If we compare this to the previous year there is an increase of over 100 percent which is massive.

The trade analysts say that the BCCI recorded a 2,367 crore surplus in 2022. The surplus amount reached a massive Rs 5210 crore, a growth of 116 percent. The growth of such a big percent in a year speaks volumes about the growth IPL sees with each passing year.

In total, BCCI recorded an annual growth of Rs 11,769 crore. Every year IPL is held, it mints gold and brings a massive income to the body. Media rights and sponsorship deals are the major income ways for the BCCI.

There will be a massive competition to get the Media rights to stream the matches. For the 2023 edition, Disney Star and Viacom18 bagged the rights. Even for the sponsorship rights, the companies won't shy away from spending huge amounts.

BCCI is said to have earned Rs 8,744 through media rights, a growth of over onefold than the previous season. With media rights, BCCI earned Rs 48,390 crore for the 2023-2027 cycle.

Not just the income, the expenditure also increased. Reports say that BCCI’s expenditure stands at Rs 6648 crore for the 2023 edition of IPL which is a growth of 66 percent from the previous edition. On the other hand, the BCCI paid as much as Rs 4,670 crore.
