Despite the several advantages that it has the ruling BRS appears to be a deeply divided and troubled house in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area. Internal dissensions rebellion and defections are threatening the prospects of the party in the GHMC and the Medchal Malkajgiri area.

There are 24 assembly seats in the GHMC area of which seven are in the hands of the MIM a BRS ally. One seat – Goshamahal – is in the hands of the BJP. The remaining 16 seat are with the BRS. But all is not well in most of these constituencies. KCR has renominated most of the sitting MLAs and gave the Cantonment seat to deceased MLA Sayanna’s daughter.

However in most constituencies sitting GHMC corporators who aspired for the party tickets are unhappy. Some of them are openly refusing to work with the sitting MLAs. For instance in Qutbullahpur no sitting BRS corporator is said to be willing to work with him. Despite entreaties from the high command they are not coming forward to campaign for him. BRS corporator from Ramaram Ravula Seshagiri Rao has rebelled and applied for a Congress ticket from the same constituency.

Meanwhile Mynampally Hanumantha Rao sitting MLA from Malkajgiri is said to be planning to contest from Qutbullahpur. He is said to have commissioned a survey in the constituency. Alwal corporator Vijayasanthi is said to be eyeing the Malkajgiri seat. Several more corporators too are said to be in touch with the Congress.
