In one such incident, as many as 23 Army personnel are said to have gone missing. The heavy downpours resulted in the Teesta river's water level going up at alarming levels.
As a few vehicles were washed away, the Army personnel went missing. The concerned authorities launched a rescue operation to see that they are brought back safely. More details are awaited.
It is said that the water level in the Teesta river in Sikkim's Lachen Valley went up with the rains and many vehicles were washed away. Water flew into the buildings that are close to the valley.
As per the reports, Sikkim has been seeing rains for the past few days and the density of the rain increased at one leading to a flood like situation. Many suspect that Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) might have played a role in the sudden situation.
