Indian Squad For World Cup: Mix Of Concerns And Happiness!
Now the selection committee has announced the 15-member squad for the 50 Over World Cup.
After a long gap of 12 years, India is hosting the upcoming 50-over World Cup. India hosted the 2011 World Cup earlier and lifted the glorious trophy after crushing the Sri Lankan team in the finals. India also hosted the 2016 T20 WC, but it was the short format. All eyes are on the tournament to see if India can put an end to the long drought of the ICC trophy. The last time India won the ICC trophy was Champions Trophy in 2013 under Dhoni's leadership.
Now the selection committee has announced the 15-member squad for the 50 Over World Cup. The team selection has a few merits and demerits. While a few names made the fans happy, a few names made the fans unhappy.
Indian Squad: Rohit Sharma (skipper), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah.
India has been very strong in the batting segment. The selection committee made sure that the players selected will strengthen it. Skipper Rohit Sharma is the opener and young player Shubman Gill will open the innings with Rohit.
It looks like KL Rahul who is prone to injuries was selected. Many felt that Sanju Samson would be picked. But the young player had to wait for the big opportunity. Both KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are selected as wicketkeepers. Though fans have divided opinions on KL Rahul’s selection they are happy with Ishan Kishan.
The young player showed his class against arch-rivals Pakistan. On a bowling-friendly pitch where the top order failed to score big, Ishan Kishan scored a crucial inning and set a good partnership with Hardik Pandya. If not for the partnership, the match would have turned differently.
Suryakumar Yadav known for his ability to play shots in 360 degrees was given a call. Many say that SKY is fit for only T20 format and 50-over is not his cup of tea. However, the selection committee picked him in the squad.
Venues in India are known for spinning pitches and despite this, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was not picked for the team. Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel were selected. It is a big shock that Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal missed a place in the team.
Coming to the pace department, yorker king Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur were selected. These bowlers can come in handy with the bat as well.
The likes of Prasidh Krishna and Umran Malik who were expected to be selected were not selected. Umran Malik is the fastest Indian bowler who clocks 150. However, a few former players say that he needs to focus on swing as well, and only speed won't help.
