When we talk about the elections in India, EVMs come to our mind as we have been using the same. Earlier we used to vote in ballot boxes. But things changed in the 1990s and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were introduced. The opposition parties have a few doubts about EVMs. But we are using them for voting.

While India is using EVMs for elections, the superpower nation US is still using ballot boxes for votes. This is a big shock that a big nation like the United States is still using a ballot system while India moved to EVMs.

The reason is that there is a big difference in the population of both countries. While the US population is just over 34 cr, India's population is 1.44 billion. We officially took over Dragon country China and emerged as the most populous country in the world.

Given its lower population, it will be an easy job to hold the elections with the ballot system. With this, the US is continuing with the existing system. Things might change in the future if the US population increases. As of now, the US is sticking to the ballot system.

The United States will go for the Presidential elections soon. Even for the intense polls in 2024, the US is using the system. Things change for the ballot system when the population size increases.

The ballot system is tiresome and makes it an even more tough job considering India’s population. There is a lot of difference between 34 Cr and 1.44 billion. If we would have stuck to the ballot box then it would be a lengthy process for the elections.

Talking about India, EVMs were introduced as the ballot box system needs a lot of hard work. Another thing is that there is a threat of people with money and muscle power showing their strength and getting votes. This reason also played its role in moving towards EVMs is what the observers say.
