Jaya Prakash Narayan Has Suggestions On Hyd Metro Expansion!
He said that the government should be cautious about the massive spending on metro expansion and the government should also think about the returns that come from it.
The pearl city Hyderabad is one of the metro cities in the country which is competing with other big cities in various aspects. Adding a new feather to its cap, the city welcomed Metro a few years back and Hyderabad Metro Rail is dubbed as the second largest metro network in India.
In a recent meeting, the Telangana Cabinet took the decision to expand the Hyd Metro services. Not just within the city, the metro will be extended up to Outer Ring Road (ORR) for better connectivity. The estimated cost of the same is said to be over Rs 60,000 crores.
Days after the decision, former IAS officer Jaya Prakash Narayan who is using his vast experience to give analysis on the issues reacted to this. The Former MLA said that the decision to expand the Metro services should be welcomed. However, he has some suggestions in this regard.
Having welcomed the decision, JP raised some concerns. He said that the government should be cautious about the massive spending on metro expansion and the government should also think about the returns that come from it. There should be a guarantee on the investments he said.
JP suggested that the Metro services should be expanded in a phased manner in a bid to ease the financial burden. He said that the services should be extended in the GHMC limits first and then it can be spread in areas where there is traffic issue. ORR has less public movement and what’s the point in having a metro there, he asked.
He also suggested making public transport strong so that the connectivity will increase. JP said that if the connectivity is increased then commuters will not face any issues during their travel. JP opined that the services like RTC bus services and MMTS should be increased further so that the connectivity increases.
It is known that the Hyd metro went through a big loss during the Covid outbreak. As the services were shut for two years due to the lockdown. Though metro services are being used by commuters in big numbers now, it is said that the Hyd Metro has heavy losses. Amid this, the metro expansion plan was announced which made JP react.
