It already known that artificial intelligence is being seen as the next big thing in the global technological space, and there are some pretty significant advancements in this regard. On that note, one of the leading artificial intelligence platforms Perplexity has made a significant offer to Google Chrome.

Aravind Srinivas, an IIT Madras graduate and CEO of Perplexity AI, has reportedly made a bold move by offering $34.5 billion in cash to buy Google Chrome.

This is surprising because Perplexity AI is valued at $18 billion, but the offer is almost double that. The timing is interesting as the U.S. Department of Justice is said to be pressuring Google to sell Chrome as part of antitrust measures.

Chrome is not just an internet browser. With over 3.45 billion users and a 65% market share, it is the main gateway to the internet and a key part of Googles $300 billion advertising business.

Perplexity already has its own AI-powered browser called Comet, which can perform tasks like booking flights, managing emails, and browsing automatically. If that technology is combined with Chromes reach, it could create a powerful new competitor in the browser market.

Reports claim that several investment funds are ready to help finance the deal. However, the path wont be easy, Google will likely fight to keep Chrome, and other big tech companies may also try to buy it.

Whether the deal succeeds or not, this attempt shows that in the age of AI, even the biggest tech giants can face unexpected challenges from ambitious newcomers.
