Tamil Nadu is home to many historic temples which reflect the construction marvels of the Hindu religious places. Whenever the topic of big temples comes up, then Tamil Nadu finds itself in the middle of the discussion. But there is another thing prevalent in the state that often counters these places.

It is known that Tamil Nadu is the hotbed for Dravidian politics. Over the decades the Dravidian and Periyar ideology have locked horns with the temples and free practices followed there. The focus on Hindu religious places saw an increase in the state of late.

Though many temples in the state are under the control of the state government, there are a few shrines like the Kanagasabai temple which are not fully under the control. A few months back, officials entered the shrine despite strong resistance from the priests in the temple.

Now Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare Udhayanidhi Stalin made some serious comments and compared Sanatan Dharma to that of malaria and dengue. Having said that, he observed that Sanatan Dharma should be eradicated.

As he is the Chief Minister’s son, his comments created a big uproar and drew a strong response. The BJP leaders are coming down severely on the Cabinet Minister. Firebrand leader Annamalai, who is serving as the Chief of BJP for Tamil Nadu state slammed his comments and asked Udhayanidhi Stalin to first stop his mother from going to temple.

Former Minister Daggubati Purandeswari who is serving as the Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party chief also gave a strong response and said that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments have raised concerns among the Hindus in the country.

She went on to say that Stalin who took oath on the Constitution of India talked about eradicating the Sanatana Dharma and asked why Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Minister P. K. Sekar Babu who is also on the same stage did not take any objection to what Stalin said. Dragging Tamil Nadu chief of the grand old Congress party K S Alagiri, Daggubati Purandeswari said that he dubbed the alliance aims to dismantle Sanatana Dharma. Adding all these, she said that the Hindu community has a few concerns about this.
