Senior IAS Joins YCP, To Be Candidate In Elections?

The ruling YSRCP is facing an interesting trend. On one side the party is seeing the leaders leaving the party and joining others due to various reasons. A few legislators including MLAs and MPs left the party already. On the other side, it is also seeing incomings from other parties.

It is very rare to have such a trend. Ahead of the general election, a former Collector joined the party. In the presence of party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he became the party leader. It is being reported that he might be fielded as the MLA ticket on a YCP ticket.

Senior IAS officer AMD Imtiaz opted for a voluntary resignation from his post recently. This started the debate that the former Collector might take the political path and join the ruling party. Making the reports true he joined the YCP and Jagan welcomed him. As he joined the party ahead of the elections a debate started that he might get an MLA ticket as he hails from the Kurnool district. As he is a known face there he might have an advantage.

It is known that YCP has the tradition of giving former officials a chance in elections. Former cop Gorantla Madhav was given the MP seat and he won. He is serving as the MP now. So we cannot rule out the possibility. A doctor was given Tirupati MP seat recently and made him win the elections.

Another factor is that the IAS opted for voluntary retirement and the government accepted it. Days after this he joined the party and was welcomed by YS Jagan. These back-to-back developments start the debate on why everything happened very quickly. One is that Imtiaz is a known face in the region and the minority population is in big numbers. Even the current MLA is from the minority community. All these factors add fuel to the debate that the IAS might be a candidate in elections.
