While we have many male stand-up comedians, there are only a few female artists and Mumbai-based stand-up comedian Urooj Ashfaq is one among them. She is known for doing stand-up shows on various issues which makes her stand alone from others. Now, she added another big feather to her glorious cap.

Urooj Ashfaq won the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Award for her comedy show. Making her way into the prestigious comic show is one achievement and in her debut stint, she won the award which makes her the first Indian comic to bag the award.

Edinburgh Comedy Awards are seen as a prestigious comic event in the world as comics across the world take part in this to showcase their talent. Only the best make it to the show and the best of the best gets selected for the award. Indian comic Urooj Ashfaq was selected for the award.

She was presented with the Best Newcomer Award at the 2023 award. Urooj Ashtaf flaunted her winning trophy and posed with it. On the big occasion, she thanked her friends for standing with her as a support.

“I am so happy to have gone to the fringe and had the experience I had and been around the people I had the privilege of being around. Sorry for the long caption but this is a big deal for me,” the comic said, sharing the winning moments.

Before becoming a noted stand-up comedian, Urooj Ashfaq made many heads turn by taking part in shows like Queens Of Comedy, Comedy Premier League, Comicstaan, and others.

What makes Urooj Ashfaq’s shows more relatable is that she uses real-life issues like Hindu-Muslim ties and topics like Menstruation which are seen as taboo. When no one showed interest in talking about them, she made a show out of them and created a niche for herself.
