The largest section of the Indian population had been protesting against the blending of ethanol in petrol, which is expected to reduce the mileage of the vehicle. There are also reports that certain components could be compromised from the same.

However, the authorities have been consistently progressing on this, and the clarification is that there is no truth in this narrative. The central authorities have mandatory clear that ethanol blending will not damage the vehicle and it is also good on the environment.

Now, the Supreme Court has dismissed a public interest litigation plea seeking more transparency on ethanol-blended petrol, including mandatory display of the exact ethanol content at petrol pumps and on fuel receipts.

However, the bench of Justices Sundresh and Varale dismissed the plea filed by advocate Narendra Goswami, while granting him liberty to approach the concerned High Court.

The plea wanted directions to petrol pumps to display the precise percentage of ethanol blended in petrol. It also sought that the ethanol content be specifically stated on receipts and invoices issued to consumers at fuel stations.

However, this demand to display the all blending percentage which carried a lot of social significance was not entertained at the Supreme Court. So for now, no consumer will have access to the exact volume of the ethanol that is blended in petrol now.
