Govt Job Applicants Cannot Have 2 Or More Kids: SC Backs!
Talking about Rajasthan there has been a long-standing rule which says that those who have two or more children cannot apply for the government job.
Getting a government job is not everyone's cup of tea. Out of a flood of aspirants who apply for government jobs only a small percent of them would make it to the final cut. This is the case with the majority of government jobs and vacancies.
On top of this, there are certain rules in a few states which becomes the parameters for getting a job. Talking about Rajasthan there has been a long-standing rule which says that those who have two or more children cannot apply for the government job. This has been followed for a very long time.
This rule went to the notice of the Supreme Court and the court supported the rule. The Top Court said that the rule is not unconstitutional and there is no violation. While ruling out in favour of the rule, the Supreme Court said that earlier a similar rule was supported for Panchayat elections.
An Ex-serviceman moved the top court as he has two kids and he could not apply for the government job. Earlier the High Court said that it cannot intervene in this as the rule is under the regulations. With this, he moved the Supreme Court.
The bench of justices comprising justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and KV Viswanathan heard the petition and said that there is no discrimination in this and no violation as well. Having said that the bench quashed the petition.
Earlier the Supreme Court supported a similar rule which says a member cannot contest the Panchayat elections if he or she has two or more children. The bench mentioned the verdict.
India is seeing a big jump in the population every year and it recently surpassed China in terms of population. Many say that rules like imposing a limit on employees' children would help in battling this. Now the Supreme Court supported the rule and junked the plea.
