Is the arrest of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest paving way for new political alignment in poll-bound Andhra Pradesh? Political watchers say that the reactions and responses to Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest show that a new political axis is getting formed and this could be dangerous for the ruling YSRCP.

While the BJP largely stayed away from criticizing the arrest, some voices at the national level like Dr K Laxman have condemned it. Beyond that, the BJP did not do anything. But, its alliance partner and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan openly slammed the YSRCP and has joined hands with the TDP. Will this mean that he will sever his connections with the BJP and form an alliance with the TDP?

Meanwhile, the two Left Parties – the CPI and the CPM – have also criticized the YSRCP government’s action. They said that the arrests were undemocratic and termed Jagan a despot. Political pundits say that this could also pave the way for a TDP-Jana Sena-Left alliance in the state.

This alliance is likely to leave out the BJP as it has remained neutral in the whole episode. State BJP chief Purandeswari’s refusal to condemn the arrest is being seen as a clear signal that the BJP is not amenable to an alliance with the TDP. However, the TDP might become formidable with the emergence of this new political axis.
