How Sweepers In Hyderabad Earning 2L/Month?

The greater Hyderabad municipal Corporation is one of the largest municipal bodies in the country. In accordance with this salary, expenditures for the municipality workers is also very standard. But the latest developments are suggesting that municipality workers are earning pretty significantly in Hyderabad now.

According to a report, the monthly salary and pension burden of the Telangana government has increased sharply over the last decade.

When the state was formed in 2014, the combined monthly payout towards salaries and pensions was said to be around Rs 1500 crore. Today, that figure has reportedly touched nearly Rs 6000 crore per month, showing almost a fourfold rise.

The report highlights some striking salary figures. In the power sector, senior chief engineers working in state run electricity companies are said to be drawing salaries that can go up to around Rs 7 lakh per month at the top level.

At the same time, certain long serving sanitation workers, after multiple pay revisions and allowances, are reportedly earning close to Rs 2 lakh per month.

Officials have explained that repeated pay revisions over the years are one of the main reasons behind this surge. Several departments, especially in the power sector, have seen periodic hikes that significantly pushed up the fixed salary structure.

The rising wage bill has now triggered discussions about financial sustainability. While government jobs in the state have become very attractive, questions are being raised about how the administration will manage this growing monthly commitment in the long run.
