BSP candidate attacked with swords in BRS minister's constituency

In a shocking incident, an attempt was made on the life of Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from Suryapet on Sunday evening. The incident happened as BSP candidate Vatti Janayya and his supporters entered Gattikal village in S Atmakur mandal of the Suryapet constituency as part of the party's election campaign.

As they entered the village, a group of inebriated persons accosted him and asked him not to campaign in the village. They entered into a heated argument as Janayya refused to yield and insisted on continuing the campaign. The group of protesters attacked them with sickles and swords. In the melee, several persons were injured.

Janayya suffered a knife injury on his hand and another of his supporter lost his finger of the hand when he tried to prevent them from attacking Janayya. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be out of danger. The assailants were identified as Ashok Reddy, Tirumal Reddy and Akhil Reddy.

Janayya alleged that the assailants were close to minister and BRS candidate Jagadish Reddy. He claimed that they asked him as to why he was contesting against Jagadish Reddy. He blamed the minister for the attack on him. He also alleged that the police were going soft on the assailants. He said they dillydallied on filing a case against the assailants.
