The most recent activity came up in the form of the question paper leakage for the NEET exam that created India wide protests. Now the Indian government has collectively decided that it is better to ban the telegram platform on all social platforms in order to restrict the question paper leakages phenomenon.
According to the latest developments, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued notification, restricting access to the Telegram platform in India till 22 June 2026. This decision has been taken in view of the covering on the day of the NEET re-examination and its immediate aftermath.
A direction requiring the platform to disable, in India, the message-editing feature in respect of messages already posted, for a defined period ending 30 June 2026. The government says that this is addressing the specific structural feature through which the platform has been used to fabricate after-the-event paper leak evidence in respect of national examinations. This was the communication that was made by the national agency regarding the NEET exam leaks.
This would essentially mean that India will suspend access to Telegram until midnight on June 22, 2026, covering the day of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination. The measure is aimed at ensuring a free and fair conduct of the examination and preventing the spread of unauthorized information through messaging platforms.
In addition, Telegram's message-editing feature is expected to remain disabled until the end of June as part of efforts to curb the circulation and modification of exam-related content.
