BJP Govt in This State Gearing Up For UCC Bill?
The BJP is often talking about this. Political observers say that the bill would see development if it wins the next term Lok Sabha polls
The Uniform Civil Code has been discussed in the country for some time. The UCC proposal says that personal laws in the country will be applied irrespective of religion, gender, and sexual orientation. However, this is opposed by a few corners of society.
The BJP is often talking about this. Political observers say that the bill would see development if it wins the next term Lok Sabha polls. Before this, the BJP-ruled states are aggressively talking about this and are making moves.
As per the media reports, the BJP-ruled Uttarakhand government might table the UCC draft soon and the draft might have some sensational issues. It is said that the bill talks about banning polygamy and live-in registration by couples.
The media reports are abuzz that the bill also mentions equal inheritance rights for both the son and daughter which is a good thing. However, there is no clarity on whether it is true or not.
BJP also mentioned the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill as the election promise in a few states. The party stressed this during the Karnataka and Uttarakhand elections. While BJP lost the Karnataka polls, it won in Uttarakhand for the second term.
Following this, the party is said to be working extensively on the bill and the draft might be tabled soon. The draft is said to have been prepared by a special committee after gathering opinions from people in big samples. Let us wait and see how the BJP goes forward on this.
