The United States immigration authorities have made it extremely hard for the international population to get the United States Visa. It appears that the process is only going to get tougher from now on as the immigration department is taking more such radical decisions.

The United States Embassy in India has issued a clear warning to applicants seeking B1 and B2 visitor visas. Officials stated that visas can be refused if a consular officer believes the traveler intends to enter the country mainly to give birth so the child can receive United States citizenship.

This practice is often described as birth tourism and it is not allowed under the rules that govern visitor visas. The embassy shared this reminder on its official social media page, stressing that the purpose of a visitor visa must match the information given during the interview.

B1 and B2 visas are meant only for short visits related to tourism, business meetings, or genuine medical needs. Applicants must show that they have strong connections to India and that they plan to return after their trip.

If an officer suspects that someone is traveling while pregnant with the primary aim of delivering the baby in the United States, the application can be rejected on the spot.

The announcement comes at a time when the United States is applying stricter checks across several visa categories. While traveling during pregnancy is not banned, using a visitor visa to secure citizenship for a future child is against the rules and will lead to denial.
