The number of crimes against the Indian community in the United States has been on a constant spike these days. A tragic incident in Texas has claimed the life of 28-year-old Telugu student Chandrashekar Pole, who was shot dead while working part-time at a gas station in Fort Worth.
The police arrested Richard Florez, a 23-year-old man, in connection with the killing. After shooting Chandrashekar, Florez reportedly fired at another vehicle about a mile away, though no one was injured. He later crashed into a gate while trying to enter a nearby house, where he was taken into custody.
The exact reason behind the attack is still unknown. Chandrashekar, who hailed from Hyderabad, had completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in India before moving to the United States two years ago for higher studies. He finished his master’s degree six months ago and was working part-time to support himself.
The Consulate General of India in Houston has contacted his family and is assisting with the process of sending his body back to India. The incident has deeply shocked the Indian community in the U.S., once again raising concerns about the safety of students abroad. Police investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive behind the senseless shooting.
