The volume of the Indian population travelling to the United States in the recent times has gone up exponentially, and this is not likely to slowdown in the near future either. But the latest development regarding the United States visa policy has brought a massive change.

The recent cancellation of large numbers of H1B and H4 visa interviews at United States consulates across India has created serious disruption for many families.

Applicants who had confirmed appointments for December suddenly received notices saying their interviews were cancelled or pushed to much later dates. Many have now been rescheduled for early or even mid 2026, leaving people stranded in India with no clear timeline for returning to their jobs, schools, or daily life in the United States.

This situation comes at a time when the United States has introduced a new online presence review that requires deeper checks of applicants public social media activity.

The additional screening has slowed down processing and sharply reduced the number of interviews that consulates can handle each day. As a result, consulates in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai have cancelled hundreds of slots, creating panic among visa holders already living under tight timelines.

Families report emotional and financial stress as some members remain stuck in India while others wait in the United States. Many fear job loss, visa lapses, and school interruptions for children. With appointments unavailable for months, people are urging consulates to offer clarity and restore interview capacity as quickly as possible.
