It is already known that United States, president Donald Trump has been firmly working against the international immigration population. His primary aim has been to cut down on the venue generation screams for the immigration population.

Reportedly, the United States is witnessing a sharp decline in H 1B visa petitions, following the introduction of a massive 100000 dollar surcharge on new applications.

The policy, introduced in September 2025, appears to have significantly impacted hiring patterns, according to data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Officials have confirmed that the number of petitions has dropped notably in recent months, with many employers unwilling to bear the steep additional cost. The surcharge applies only to new H 1B applications and is over and above the existing visa processing fees.

Reports indicate that companies, especially small and mid sized firms, are either delaying hiring plans or completely halting international recruitment. Instead, many are now focusing on hiring workers already present in the United States to avoid paying the extra fee.

The financial impact is also becoming evident. While the government collected around 8.5 million dollars through the surcharge, it simultaneously lost nearly 28 million dollars from the drop in regular visa filings, highlighting a major slowdown in demand.

Experts believe this trend could have long term consequences, particularly for Indian tech professionals who form a large share of H 1B applicants. With rising costs and uncertainty, many are now exploring alternative destinations or remote work opportunities, signaling a shift in the global talent landscape.
