It is already known that the United States authorities have fully adopted a model where they’re least bothered about H1B visas. It has reached a point where the authority are also restricting the H1B visa intake and imposing money restrictions on the same.

Now, a US lawmaker has introduced a bill in Congress that would completely end the H1B visa programme, a key pathway for foreign professionals to work in the United States.

The bill was put forward by Representative Greg Steube of Florida, a Republican, who argues that the current visa system has been misused by companies to hire cheaper foreign labour instead of American workers.Under the proposed legislation, known as the Ending Exploitative Imported Labour Exemptions Act or EXILE Act, no new H1B visas would be issued once the law takes effect. The aim of the bill is to change existing immigration law to effectively set the number of H1B visas to zero starting in the next fiscal period.

Supporters of the bill say that ending the programme would protect jobs for US professionals and stop what they view as exploitation of foreign nationals by some employers. Critics say the H1B visa is essential for filling specialised roles in technology, science, engineering and other fields where there are not enough qualified American workers.

They warn that eliminating the programme could slow innovation and make it harder for US companies to compete globally. The bill now must go through committees and votes before it can become law.
