Biggest Film Struggling To Get OTT Deal?

Already, OTTs themselves tightened the noose a year ago, saying that they can’t shell out budgets quite as lavishly. After making sure that all the film industries go dependent on them for sales, the digital streaming platforms have comfortably changed their buying tactics and lowered the budgets. And now, it has come to a point where some of the biggest films are getting badly affected.
A rumour is doing the rounds that the biggest streaming platform, Netflix, is not ready to shell out huge amounts and has offered only 50% of what the makers asked. It’s rumoured that the makers are demanding a solid ₹500 crores, but not just Netflix; no OTT platform is ready for that. Insiders are hoping that this film will not make a mistake like Toxic or Vishwambhara by not closing the OTT deal at the earliest. The more they delay, the interest gets lost easily.
Guess what, even big stars, big directors and anything bigger and larger-than-life is also not able to convince the OTT platforms these days. That reminds the film industry of the immediate need to focus more on box office performance, rather than recovering the investment through OTT platforms’ paychecks. Once again, films should go back to the old way of making good stories, releasing with a plan and collecting good from the box office.
