Several decades after the actual release of the film, it is now preparing for its re-release in theatres on April 4 all over again. Grand promotional event was held in Hyderabad last night to publicise the arrival of the film in theatres again.
Aditya 369 (1991) is a pioneering Indian sci-fi film directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, Mohini, and Amrish Puri. The film revolves around a time-traveling scientist, Professor Ramdas, who invents a machine capable of traveling through time. When Krishna Kumar (Balakrishna) and his love interest Hema (Mohini) accidentally activate the machine, they embark on an extraordinary journey across history.
They first land in the Vijayanagara Empire during King Krishnadevaraya’s reign, witnessing its grandeur. Later, they are propelled into a dystopian future dominated by nuclear war and chaos. Meanwhile, a greedy villain, Raja Verma (Amrish Puri), seeks to misuse the time machine for his own gain.
Blending history, futurism, and adventure, Aditya 369 was groundbreaking for Telugu cinema. It remains a cult classic, praised for its innovative storytelling, visual effects, and gripping narrative, making it one of India’s finest sci-fi films.
It could be argued that Aditya 369 is one of the hallmark films of Tollywood and it could potentially be a case study in terms of revolutionised storytelling and narration. It is still one of the finest films ever to be made in Telugu Cinema.
