Sometimes it is quite crazy that movies that are made now don’t perform as expected, and movies that came out long, long ago actually outshine the current releases during the re-releases. Now, one such thing has happened in the state of Keralam, where lots of Telugu films are getting dubbed and released every month. Here’s what happened.

Allu Arjun’s two-decade-old movie, Happy, a film directed by Karunakaran, has turned out to be an average grosser at the time of release. Produced by Geetha Arts back in 2006, the film turned out to be average then, but the re-release 4K version, which is dubbed in Malayalam as well, has done the unthinkable. Beating a big re-release like Baahubali The Epic, which collected ₹26+ lakhs on its release day, now Happy has collected nearly ₹32 lakhs. This is purely based on the craze M-Allu Arjun has in the state of Keralam and the love showered by his fans over there. Guess what, even the recent big releases that were dubbed in Keralam’s Malayalam haven’t seen such good openings at the Mallu box office.

Well, while films like Baahubali and RRR haven’t collected big from Kerala, surely Pushpa 2 has made more than ₹16 crores from the state, and that explains the fan power of the Icon Star. In the wake of Happy movie doing well in Kerala, though it hasn’t reached expectations in Telugu states, during the re-release. On the other hand, Allu Arjun’s next films being directed by Tamil filmmakers will have more appealing content for Malayalam audiences as well, say reports.
