For the unversed, Deva Katta, who is regarded as one of the versatile and sensible filmmakers in Telugu cinema was previously roped in to direct Baahubali: Before the Beginning web series. Netflix announced the series and even a portion of the series was shot on a lavish scale. Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru were roped in to direct the series. However, it was later heard that Netflix was not satisfied with the output dished out by Praveen and Deva Katta. Netflix then scrapped the project and there has been no update on the same for, until recently, when Netflix revived it.

When asked about the reason why Netflix: Before the Beginning series was scrapped, Deva Katta has an interesting reply. He says Netflix didn't exclude him and Praveen from the project but they themselves opted out. Deva Katta even came up with an interesting response so as to why he, and Praveen Sattaru dissociated with the project.

"Netflix's idea was to present Baahubali: The Beginning as India's very own Baahubali. They wanted us to conceive and direct just 1 season of the series. But that isn't how one makes a series of that magnitude. In the case of Game of Thrones, the unit spent over 10 years on just developing the story. Another 10 years or so were spent on building the screenplay and the pre-production. As for Baahubali web series, there was very limited time to conceive and execute the project. A series like this one cant be made in a quick time. Moreover, the scripting takes more time to develop as we need to plan the narrative for the forthcoming episodes as well and not just for the opening season. With things not entirely lining up, and we ourselves not in a position to dedicate a major part of our lives for the project, we opted out. I am making it clear for once and for all, we weren't ousted by Netflix. We ourselves came out," Deva Katta said.

Meanwhile, Netflix has commissioned a new team to work on the series. The pre-production is underway already. A Bollywood filmmakers is directing the project now. Wamiqa Gabbi, a Bollywood actress was roped in to play Sivagami in the series.
